Description

This class focuses on Swiss darning, used for stocking/stockinette knitted garments. This darning method can be used for visible darning but is also the perfect option for making invisible darns in your knitted garments.

The class may be suitable for (adventurous) beginner hand stitchers but it is best if you have some knitting experience, this will be a help in understanding how the darn works.

1-4pm

Maximum class size: 8

Materials
Garment to darn
– either a holey garment or a knitted swatch, the ‘chunkier’ the better. For the class avoid garments knit with very fine, fluffy, or eyelet yarn. Garments that are very loosely knit are not a good choice eiter.
Darning mushroom (bring your own or buy in store)
Darning/yarn needles (bring your own or buy in store)
Embroidery scissors
Hair elastic (optional)
Yarn. The thickness should match the knitwear (the colour can either match or contrast the knitted item)
Six stranded embroidery thread (you won’t need loads of this, half a skein in a random colour is plenty.)

At T&T, we sell darning mushrooms, needles, embroidery threads and darning yarn. You would need to select appropriate threads for your project ahead of the workshop, but you can click here to add a Darning Mushroom and Needle Pack to your purchase of this class. It will be ready for you on the day.
