Description

A Beebrick is a great gift for garden lovers, design lovers and nature lovers. Solitary bees are fascinating to watch and it’s a wonderful way to introduce kids to bees because solitary bees have no queen or honey to protect, so aren’t aggressive and won’t sting.

The Bee Brick™ is an innovative nesting site for solitary bees, created to be used as a standalone bee house in your garden, or in place of a standard brick in construction, creating more habitat for non-swarming solitary bees.

The Bee Brick™ is a simple and stylish way to do something to help our declining bee population and can be simply placed in the garden, built into a wall or retrofitted in a few simple steps.

The Bee Brick™ is designed and made by Green&Blue in the UK. Made in Cornwall from concrete, using up to 70% waste material from the Cornish China clay industry.

215mm x 105mm x 65mm

The Bee Brick™ should be positioned in a warm sunny spot, south facing, with no vegetation in front of the holes. Ideally placed at least 1 metre from the ground.

Each Bee Brick™ has cavities where the bees will lay their eggs, sealing the entrance with mud or chewed up vegetation. Offspring emerge in the Spring and begin the process of nesting again, repeating the cycle.

Solitary bees are facing a dramatic decline in numbers due to disease, an increase in chemical use and habitat loss. The role they play in pollination accounts for around 1/3 of the food we eat and they are therefore a vital part of our environment. The Bee Brick™ can be used in urban spaces and places where there may not be alternative nesting sites for bees.
