Description
One colour black mini version of my Isokon artwork, 5”x7” fits perfectly in that sized frame – supplied in a cello sleeve.
I wanted to make an artwork of this building ever since I rediscovered it on an excellent North London Midcentury walking tour. I used to pass it in the 90’s as it was so dilapidated never knew what a historical and interesting building it was. It’s since been restored, Grade I listed with an excellent little gallery/museum reflecting its fascinating history. My artwork focuses on its’ Bauhaus legacy emphasizing its clean lines and geometric shapes.
The first modernist flats designed by Jack and Molly Pritchard (who also lived there) were instrumental in helping emigres from a pre-war Europe. During this period of artistic revolution it housed the Bauhaus founders/ teachers / designers : Walter Gropius; Marcel Breuer, and László Moholy-Nagy, who are now commemorated with an English Heritage Blue Plaque. An NKVD spy, Agatha Christie and so many more notable figures enjoyed this sanctuary and creative hub
Bespoke mounted in a 50cm x 40cm black frame.
