Description
Come and knit your first jumper! If you want to move on from scarves and hats to your first garment, this course is for you. With a group of other intrepid knitters, your tutor will guide you through your project, breaking the pattern down into manageable sections and knitting it along with you. By the end of the course, you’ll not only have a beautiful handmade garment fitted specially to you, but the knowledge and skills to knit hundreds of other patterns and fill your wardrobe with handknits!
You should be confident in some basic skills – knitting, purling, casting on and off. Experience knitting in the round is useful (but not totally necessary.) The class is every two weeks to allow time between stages without too much pressure. If you have any questions about the course requirements, please ask and we’ll get you sorted!
This class covers:
- reading knitting patterns
- choosing your size
- swatching for gauge
- knitting to your shape
- using stitch markers

We’ll be using the free Tin Can Knits Flax pattern – it runs from a 30″ to a 68″ chest circumference and uses aran weight yarn. Your booking includes all the teaching materials – you will need to provide your own needles and yarn. Slipstitch can order yarn in and are happy to advise on it.
