A short two-class course for anyone who knows the basics of using a sewing machine (if this isn’t you, take a look at our Beginner’s Class) but would like to gain confidence and learn how to make a couple of handy items.
Often people give up at their first try with machine sewing – trying to grapple with patterns and principles that seem too tricky and don’t let them get started. We will take a no-pattern approach and learn to make a bag and a cushion cover that you can adapt to the size you need them to be, or which fits to the fabric you want to use.
You can use one of our machines or bring your own. We can’t repair them, but often there is a quick solution to getting them running if you’re having trouble.
Two sessions of two hours each, 7-9pm. 6 and 13 October
In the first session we will make a simple, envelope-style cushion cover, learning the proportions, how to cut fabric, hem and sew it all together. You can bring your own fabric if you like, and make to a cushion size that you need or already have. We will supply some fabrics if not.
In the second class, we will tackle a tote bag of whatever size you like, with or without gusset and with a handle length that suits you, and we will line it if there is time. Again, this is working without a pattern, to your own wants/needs. Bring your own fabric or use ours.
We can’t supply a wide range of fabrics for you to use, but everything you need to complete the projects will be supplied if you don’t have any fabric of your own.
